Good Morning Texas
Host: Illnesses and injuries can happen at any time, and sometimes it can be difficult to know where to go when your family needs timely care. Paige stopped by MedExpress Urgent Care in Fort Worth, a new neighborhood healthcare provider to learn how they can help you determine the right level of care, with the right provider, at the right time.
Paige McCoy Smith: I just walked into this MedExpress Urgent Care and I must say, it’s pretty impressive. Beautiful facility, comfortable surroundings, and I also have the opportunity to talk to Dr. Taranath to tell us more. Good morning to you.
Dr. Dheeraj Taranath, MD: Good morning, hi.
Smith: Let’s talk about what it is about MedExpress Urgent Care that sets it apart from other providers in the marketplace.
Taranath: MedExpress is a neighborhood medical center. We’re an urgent care facility that treats everyday illness and injuries. We’re an alternative to going to either the emergency room or your family doctor.
Smith: So what are the practical benefits of understanding your healthcare options.
Taranath: So when most people think of urgent cares, they think of when they get injured or suddenly sick. But we offer a lot of other services, including occupational health for employers and the wellness of their employees as well as workers’ comp injuries. But we also have routine sports physicals for families that need their kids to get back on the field.
Smith: And why is it so important for us to be aware of our healthcare providers? Why do we need to make sure that’s researched and top of mind?
Taranath: This is a place you can come to get every day injury illness and injury taken care of -- those kinds of illness and injuries that just happen unexpectedly; you don’t want to go to the emergency room and you can’t get in to your family doctor.
Smith: So being aware of that before you walk into any kind of facility and making sure that you have those options, let’s break down different types of illnesses and whether MedExpress Urgent Care would be a good option. Let’s say I have a sprained ankle for example.
Taranath: So if you have a sprained ankle, the first thing you’re going to want to know is how do I care for it, and also, is it actually broken? At MedExpress, we have that X-ray on-sight, we can do a quick X-ray, figure out if it is truly broken. If it’s broken, we’ll get you set and sent to the specialists. If it’s just sprained, we can take care of that, too.
Smith: Flu season is here. Can we come to MedExpress Urgent Care to get vaccinated?
Taranath: Absolutely. We offer the flu vaccine for [patients] ages 4 and up. And we’re open every day, and you can just walk in without an appointment to get your flu shot.
Smith: What about an upper respiratory infection, or something where I’m just kind of feeling icky.
Taranath: That’s a really good question. Especially this time of year. With the flu season coming on, you’re going to want to know whether this is just a simple cold, a sinus infection, or actually the flu; something you’re going to want to get treated pretty quickly so that way you can get back to your regular day-to-day activities.
Smith: As a busy mom of three, convenience is a big factor when determining where I can get my medical care and what will be open in the marketplace.
Taranath: That’s right. We’re open seven days a week, twelve hours a day, including weekends. And you don't’ have to make an appointment. You can just walk right in, and we have a full team ready here to assist you and take care of all your illnesses and injuries.
Smith: Thank you so much and congratulations. This is a beautiful facility.
Taranath: Thanks so much, we’re glad to be here.
